Decluttering for Disaster Relief

This post is inspired by my friends on Facebook and the local media outlets.

This past week's storms left a trail of destruction that has leveled many homes and towns in it's wake. There are many who have been left without anything afterward. Their lives left in total disarray. They are now people with a great need.

With that need and our desires to minimize and simplify our lives by decluttering, we can help those in devastated areas. Or, you can donate monetarily to the Red Cross or other relief organization or ministry. In Central Indiana and across the US, the St. Vincent de Paul society is an agency that helps people who are in a time of need or personal crisis. Below are some of the ways you can donate.

For your local St. Vincent de Paul Society location, go to http://www.svdpusa.org/

For your local Red Cross organization, go to www.redcross.org/tornado

For those in the Central Indiana area, WTHR will be hosting WTHR Cares for the tornado relief. For more information, go to http://www.wthr.com/story/17075429/wthr-cares-hoosier-tornado-relief

Donating unused items to those in need doesn't always have to happen whenever large disasters occur, but even during smaller, yet still devastating, disasters such as house fires. Check with your local organizations on how best to help out.
